Parler Wasn’t Victim Of Big Tech Conspiracy, It Just Sucked
By Matt Berman February 9, 2021 Nobody Asked Me
Parler has been branded a victim of big tech conspiracy. The company and their spokesperson Dan Bongino claim they were on the receiving end of unfair treatment. They claim that their app was removed from the Apple store in order to silence them. Many news stories ran this angle. Nobody really bothered to mention that the app was horrible. It was not good. Do I need to say it any other way? If you never used the app you didn’t miss anything at all. But don’t believe the hype. The truth is much simpler.
ONCE UPON A TIME, PARLER WAS A SHITTY VERSION OF TWITTER. THE END.

The Parler user interface was exactly like Twitter, except a little bit worse.
The brand was slick. It looked kind of cool. To the naked eye this was a viable business. But upon any further inspection you’d realize there was nothing beneath the surface. Every other post was somebody begging for followers, while offering nothing of value. The most notable influencers on the platform were people you’d recognize from YouTube, Twitter, or other places. None of the content was original either.
One of the other things that bothers me about the idea that conservatives needed their own social media platform is that’s not how most of the censorship works. I’ve been banned from LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit subs, Facebook groups, etc. Usually it’s a user or group of users, not the platform or their moderators. Do you realize how many posts there are per day? Too many. These platforms rely on self-monitoring more than you’d realize. For example, each of these social media companies usually employs about 30,000 content moderators.
Those are human beings who actually review the posts which are flagged by actual users. So that’s the flow of information. You post something. A person in your network who doesn’t like it reports it. Then the moderator determines whether or not the post should be removed. There is very little artificial intelligence going on there until an account is reported a lot of times. If you’re a conservative you’re probably less likely to report other accounts. But liberal mobs online routinely mass report people to get them taken off of platforms because that’s how it works.
Parler Was Never Necessary Or Serious
If you are tired of being bombarded by maniacs, simply block people you don’t like. Report them if they are truly offensive or disturbing to you. But then leave them alone. Because that’s how you grow a community on an app that’s free. If it’s free then it’s an advertising company. That means your account is only & always a vessel to distribute or present advertising messages. If your content keeps people on the platform, you will be rewarded. If your content drives people off of the platform, you will be downgraded. That’s the bottom line. So Parler was just a waste of money.
But how much money was wasted? That’s a good question. A question that is not as easy to answer as the question of how much money Twitter has wasted over the years. If you look at their fundraising history on it looks like they’ve raised about $1,500,000,000 which seems low to me. But let’s just take that as the truth for the moment. That was over about 15 years since the company was founded too.
Parler on the other hand?
Parler’s page does not disclose the amount of funding their (2) investors gave. But it is listed as (1) “angel” round. If you’re not familiar with private fundraising, an angel does not usually invest very much money. They are usually a friend, family member, or somebody who is that close to the founder of the company. Right off the bat you know this wasn’t going to be able to compete with Twitter.
GOOGLE SUSPENSION & APPLE’S REMOVAL WERE BOTH FAKE NEWS
The that Google “suspends” Parler from their service. over Apple’s removal of the app from their store. Both of these stories were echoed all over the internet. The main message was that Parler had been censored into submission. However, if they were backed by $1,500,000,000 in funding like Twitter was – do you think they would get removed from anywhere? No. Of course not.
But Parler didn’t have any real money to fight with. In fact, without finding new investors to keep the app going, there was an inevitable collision course with the end of their business (if you could even call it that). The app only even had about 4,000,000 users (if that was a real number). For reference, Joe Rogan’s YouTube channel had about 9,000,000 subscribers before he moved over the Spotify. You get that?
Joe Rogan’s YouTube channel had over 2x the reach that Parler had. What did Joe Rogan invest in his program? Not much. A cheap set, a few decent microphones, a producer and a computer. A single show had more significance than Parler did. Joe Rogan’s podcast rights were purchased for over $100,000,000. Parler never raised that much money. Joe Rogan could create a better app than Parler with a fraction of the money from his Spotify deal. But why would he? What’s the point of that?
There is no point. That’s the point.
Dan Bongino should have just invested more money in his YouTube channel instead of getting people’s hopes up with a promise that would never come.
As it happens, people manipulate the press all the time.
PARLER WASN’T CENSORED. THEY RAN OUT OF MONEY.
End of story.
